Iowa Beef Center pasture preparation webinar recording available

AMES, Iowa – After another year of dry growing conditions, many Iowa pastures are likely somewhat stressed and overgrazed. Although there is only so much they can do, Iowa State University extension beef specialist Chris Clark said it's important for producers to be thoughtful and proactive in terms of pasture management to get as much as possible from their grazing acres.
"A recording of our recent Iowa Beef Center webinar on pasture preparation and renovation is now available online," he said. "In the webinar, we discuss several strategies to help with preparation and renovation of pastures for this growing season.”
The recording features three speakers from ISU Extension and Outreach. Clark sets the stage with some basic information about pasture conditions and the nutritional needs of lactating cows. ISU extension crop specialist Clarabell Probasco discusses interseeding, pasture renovation, weed control, and soil fertility. Shelby Gruss, ISU extension forage specialist, discusses using summer annuals as alternative/supplemental forage crops.
"Thoughtful pasture management is really important for profitability and productivity, and it becomes even more critical during prolonged drought," Clark said. "We hope the information in this webinar will be helpful, and we encourage all beef producers and landowners to watch this recording."
The March 27 webinar recording is about an hour in length and is available on the IBC YouTube channel.
